Gastroenterology is the study of the digestive system (esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine or colon, liver, pancreas and gallbladder). A gastroenterologist is a medical specialist who is broadly trained in internal medicine and who has also taken special training in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases involving the digestive system. Dr. Kofi Nuako is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and also in the subspecialty of Gastroenterology. He also updates his knowledge each year by taking specialized courses and through attending professional meetings as well as through independent studies.

A complete gastrointestinal evaluation includes specialized studies in addition to a thorough interview and physical examination. X-rays may be ordered and reviewed as indicated. Endoscopy (procedure using a flexible lighted instrument to inspect the lining of the digestive tract) might also be suggested.

Advanced Gastroenterology is affiliated with Summit Endoscopy Center, a Medicare, State and insurance approved endoscopy surgical center. The surgery center is operated by Advanced Gastroenterology and we strive to provide the highest quality care in as friendly and convenient a manner as possible. The physicians and nurses are highly experienced and trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. The surgery center charges a separate fee from the physician, however, all billing is conveniently done right here on site. We are very proud in that, because of our attention to detail and our efficiency, we are able to maintain a very high quality of care, but our fees are considerably less than other centers and hospitals.

If another physician referred you to our office, a summary of our findings and recommendations will be sent to your doctor at the completion of your evaluation. Unless your condition requires our continued care, your personal physician will carry out the treatment plan. In addition, problems of a general medical nature should remain under the care of your personal physician. It is necessary for you to maintain a medical doctor, as our group limits its diagnosis and treatment to diseases of the digestive system.
